JPG flattens transparency onto white. If the browser cannot encode AVIF, WebP is used instead and the card says so.

Files are processed on your device only — nothing is uploaded, logged or shared.

How to compress an image to a specific size

  1. Add your images. Drop or paste JPG, PNG or WebP files — everything stays in your browser.
  2. Pick target size mode. Tap 200KB (or type a custom KB value) — the classic limit for application forms, ID photos and forum uploads.
  3. Choose an output format. WebP gives the smallest files for the same look; JPG for maximum compatibility; AVIF where supported.
  4. Download. Check the before/after size on each card, then save single files or grab everything as one ZIP.

Target size vs quality — and which format to pick

Target file size

Best when a form or platform rejects anything over a limit. The tool searches for the highest quality that still fits, shrinking dimensions only if needed.

Quality first

Best for archives and posts where you want a known visual level — set 80–85% for a strong size/quality balance.

WebP or JPG

WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same look — best for web use. Pick JPG when the destination only accepts it. PNG stays lossless for screenshots and graphics.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to exactly 200KB?

Drop your images in, pick “Target file size” mode and set 200KB (or type any custom value). The tool re-encodes each image in the browser, searching for the highest quality that still fits under your limit, then downloads JPG, PNG or WebP files one by one or as a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Your files are never uploaded, stored or sent anywhere — you can even disconnect from the network after the page loads and it still works.

Is this image compressor free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no download limits and no per-image fees.

Which formats can I convert between?

Upload JPG, PNG or WebP and export JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. If your browser cannot encode AVIF the tool automatically falls back to WebP and tells you. Exporting JPG flattens transparent areas onto white.

What if my image still cannot reach the target size?

The tool first lowers encoding quality; if that is not enough it also shrinks pixel dimensions step by step until the file fits — so even a 5MB photo can usually get under 200KB. If an extreme target is unreachable the result card shows the smallest size achieved.

Can I compress multiple images at once?

Yes. Drop or select up to 20 images — each is compressed with the same settings and you can download them individually or as one ZIP archive.

Does compression lose image quality?

Smaller files always trade some quality. Target mode finds the best quality that still meets your limit; Quality mode gives you direct control. PNG output stays lossless, so in target mode it reaches small sizes by reducing pixel dimensions instead.
