MP4 · WebM — short clips work best

How conversion works

  1. Load. MP4 or WebM decodes with your browser's own decoder — nothing uploads.
  2. Pick the clip. Scrub the timeline, set start/end seconds or mark them while playing. Short clips (≈1–30s) are the sweet spot.
  3. Choose output. 320/480/640px width and 10/15/20fps — the estimate line shows expected frame count and memory before you commit.
  4. Convert. Frames are sampled on a canvas and encoded in a worker with progress and a working cancel button.

Frequently asked questions

Which video formats work?

MP4 (H.264) and WebM are the primary targets — anything your browser can decode converts. MOV depends on browser support and isn't guaranteed.

How long a clip can I convert?

Short clips up to about 30 seconds are recommended; longer ones trigger a resource warning. Frame count and size drive memory use, which the tool estimates before starting.

Why is the GIF so large?

GIF is limited to 256 colors with no real compression. Smaller width, lower frame rate and a shorter clip are the three effective levers.

Is the video uploaded?

No — your browser's own decoder extracts frames and the GIF is encoded locally. It even works offline.
